 Yoshida Tea Garden is a long-established tea garden located in Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, founded in 1839. For six generations, it has upheld the tradition of Sashima tea while consistently producing and selling high-quality green tea and Japanese black tea (wakōcha).
In particular, the garden focuses on the production of Japanese black tea, with its tea made from the rare “Izumi” cultivar receiving high acclaim in domestic and international competitions. For example, it has been awarded a five-star rating for 6 consecutive years in the Premium Tea Contest, a competition dedicated to Japanese black tea.Hiroki Yoshida is excited to bring his family’s teas and stories to ITC Academy. Hiroki is the seventh generation tea farmer in his family, and together with his father and his siblings, they are invested in continuing Yoshida Chaen’s legacy and introducing their teas to an international audience. After introduction of himself and his family, Yoshida will give his insight on Japanese black and green tea and all that is part of Ibaraki tea life. But the main part of the masterclasses will be used for tasting of his high prized teas.
